Freak flag #3

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.”  - Frida Kahlo

I have come across this quote from Frida Kahlo three times in the past two weeks. It must have been revived recently and I can understand why. It speaks to all of us who for one reason or another have at some time (or most of the time) in our lives felt odd, an outsider, bizarre, or different. I know that's most of us, and instead of fighting what makes us 'different' - embrace it!

That's exactly what Freak Flag Fridays are all about. I want to celebrate the beauty, mystery, wildness, weirdness and oddity in all of us.

This collage will be  is available as an 8"x10" print on my etsy shop soon.

Please leave a comment or follow my blog and you'll be entered to win a print of this weeks collage.

Have a great weekend.

  2. That quote has been coming up in my internet ramblings a lot this week too! The first time I read it, I sat back in my chair and laughed in relief and agreement. I'm weird. But I'm not alone : )

Can you tell me more about Freak Flag Fridays? I feel like my "flag" gets displayed a lot!

    1. Hello Lyssa,
Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you feel a little less alone with your flag waving in the wind. Thanks for asking for more info. Each week I am going to delve a little deeper into the phrase as I grow to understand what it means for me. A good friend said it to me a couple of months ago in a spirit of encouragement and it resonated so deeply that I felt I had to explore it further. As an artist and illustrator I wanted to make it into something that could go out in to the world and encourage others as much as it encourages me.
We can all be bold together. Take care,
      Johanna

    2. Oh my. I feel "YES"! You should definitely write more as you explore more. This phrase, ever since you wrote about it a few weeks ago, has been spinning around my head as well. The best thing is your statement, "we can all be bold together". I wonder what it means to be bold TOGETHER?

      Blessings,

      Alyssa

  3. I love it! And that quote by frida is perfect. I've felt that way at different periods of my life. I had a conversation with my sister along those lines not too long ago.
